Geriatric driving evaluations start with a modified D.O.T. physical as well as a recent medical and accident histories. Next the instructor will perform a color blindness test, whisper test, peripheral vision check, head and neck range of motion. They will then participate in a multimedia testing with worksheets that revolve around spatial relations, depth perception and driving knowledge.
Depending on the outcome of these tests, it may lead to behind the wheel evaluation. After the evaluation is complete, the instructor will provide any necessary retraining in order to help the driver accommodate their situation. Finally, the instructor will develop a hard copy of my findings and send them to the appropriate parties.
It is recommended to re-evaluate every six months.
